We encourage you to request a career workshop for your class and allow us to support your students’ career readiness.
All of our workshops are approximately 50 minutes long and include a short 5–7 minute Overview of CCLD Services. Workshops begin with a brief introduction to the Center for Career & Leadership Development and highlight the resources available to support students’ professional growth. Each session also incorporates reflection on the 8-to-Great career competencies, helping students connect their academic, campus, and personal experiences to the skills employers value most. These workshops are ideal for ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ classes, student organizations, and groups of student employees or interns who want both practical tools and meaningful reflection.

Career Workshops
This hands-on workshop is designed for students who are beginning their career journey and want to learn how to confidently highlight their experiences. Participants will reflect on their academic, campus, and personal involvement to uncover valuable transferable skills. The session will also cover the key parts of a resume and cover letter, providing practical guidance on how to create documents that tell their story and attract employers’ attention.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify transferable skills and relevant experiences gained through academic coursework, on-campus roles, and community involvement, and incorporate them effectively into a professional resume.
- Describe the essential components and structure of a strong resume and cover letter.
- Create a draft resume and outline for a cover letter that effectively communicates their skills, experiences, and goals.
This advanced workshop is designed for students who already have a resume and professional experience but want to learn how to tailor their materials for specific opportunities. Participants will explore the difference between a resume and a CV, discover the purpose of a master resume, and practice customizing their documents to align with job descriptions, graduate programs, or internships. By the end of the session, students will have the tools to present a clear, targeted narrative that stands out to employers and academic committees alike. Students are asked to bring a position description for a job or program they are interested in.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between a resume, CV, and master resume and identify when to use each document.
- Analyze job descriptions and opportunities to tailor their resume or CV effectively.
- Develop a master resume that organizes all experiences, making future tailoring and updates easier.
This interactive workshop helps students explore career options and industries that align with their personal interests, strengths, and values. Through hands-on awareness assessments and networking strategies, participants will be guided to make informed career decisions. The session will also introduce techniques such as Informational interviewing and professional networking to help students gain real-world insights and clarity about their future direction. Students are encouraged to complete the FOCUS 2 assessment prior to this session - Access Focus 2
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify personal interests, strengths, and values and connect them to potential career paths using the FOCUS 2 assessment and by exploring BLS Jobs Outlook.
- Explain how informational interviews and networking can provide deeper insight into industries and job roles.
- Develop an action plan for continued career exploration and decision-making based on their findings and experiences.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn why a strong professional brand is essential for job searching, networking, and long-term career growth. Through guided exercises, students will uncover their unique strengths, values, and passions to craft an authentic professional identity statement adaptable for bios, elevator pitches, and LinkedIn profiles. The session also explores how AI tools can enhance your branding strategy, plus best practices for showcasing your brand across digital platforms and professional spaces. Participants will leave with practical tools and a clearer sense of how to market themselves effectively and authentically.

- Identify personal strengths, values, and passions that form the foundation of their professional brand.
- Create a professional identity statement and learn how to adapt to LinkedIn, bios, and elevator pitches.

In this interactive workshop, students will learn how to navigate the job search process with confidence. We’ll explore how to use online tools including Handshake, craft a personalized approach to connecting with employers, and build a professional network that opens doors to opportunities. Through hands-on activities and discussion, participants will leave with actionable steps for expanding their professional connections and standing out in a competitive job market.

- Develop an effective job search plan using online platforms, career fairs, and networking strategies.
- ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ professional networking techniques to build meaningful relationships with industry contacts and mentors.
- Create a personal action plan for leveraging connections and digital tools to discover and pursue career opportunities.
This dynamic workshop helps students strengthen their interviewing skills for a variety of formats, including In-person interviews, virtual interviews, and panel interviews. Participants will learn how to confidently share their story, highlight their qualifications as related to position, and navigate common and challenging interview questions –utilizing STAR and bridge techniques. The session also explores salary negotiation techniques to help students advocate for themselves professionally. Through guided practice and real-world examples, participants will leave ready to approach any interview with clarity and confidence.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective interview techniques across multiple formats, including virtual and panel interviews.
- Prepare thoughtful responses that showcase skills, experiences, and alignment with organizational values.
- ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ practical strategies for post-interview follow-up and salary negotiation with professionalism and confidence.
This interactive session is designed for soon-to-be graduates and new professionals who want to enter the workforce with confidence. Participants will explore essential workplace skills such as communication, professionalism, and critical thinking through real-world scenarios, guided discussions, and practical tips.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify key professional behaviors including appropriate workplace dress and conduct.
- Practice effective verbal and written communication in professional settings.
- Demonstrate strategies for navigating common early-career challenges using scenario-based activities.

This workshop provides students with a clear, structured overview of the graduate school application process, from exploring programs to assembling competitive application materials. Designed to complement your curriculum, the session helps students understand how to present their academic achievements, research experiences, and professional potential in ways that align with expectations across graduate and professional fields.
We guide students through the core components that admissions committees evaluate, including writing an effective personal statement, developing a strong résumé or CV, obtaining high-quality recommendation letters, and planning for required admissions tests. The workshop also offers insight into how students can articulate research interests and take proactive steps now to strengthen future applications.
By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
- Distinguish between a résumé and a CV and determine which format best supports their graduate or professional school goals.
- Create a realistic timeline for researching programs, preparing materials, completing standardized tests, securing recommendations, and meeting application deadlines.
- Identify the essential elements of a strong personal statement or statement of purpose, including how to articulate academic and career goals and highlight research or experiential learning.
